Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events occurring before age 18. ACEs include all types of abuse and neglect as well as parental mental illness, substance use, divorce, incarceration, and domestic violence.
At the end of this program the learner will be better able to:
- Identify and incorporate an ACE screening tool in clinical practice;
- Evaluate a patient’s ACE score and appraise how it affects disease risk factors and incidence, quality of life; healthcare utilization and mortality;
- Identify ways to build resilience in patients with high ACE scores.
